HMS iReady Exemption Opportunity! HMS parents, please participate in the 5 Essentials Parent Survey. This anonymous survey will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. If you participate in the survey no later than Friday, March 1, and email me either the email confirming you participated or a screenshot showing the "Thank you for participating" screen at the end of the survey, your student will be exempted from one week of iReady for literature and math. This Week at HMS
Tryouts for the HMS boys and girls bowling team will be on Monday, February 26 at 3:30 pm at Ross Cottom Lanes. There will be a sign up tomorrow at lunch. All students trying out must have a current physical. All required paperwork must also be signed and returned. Students who have not tried out for another team this year will be provided with that information when they sign up. Students must make arrangements for transportation to the bowling alley. Students with a failing grade in any class and students on social suspension may not try out.

Congratulations to Quest Weatherington! He was selected to participate in the Seventh Annual ALL-STATE Junior High Classic in Lincoln, Illinois on March 2 and 3. Players from all over the state of Illinois have been nominated but only 160 were selected to play in this prestigious event. He is the first player from Harrisburg named to the ALL-STATE team. HMS is proud of Quest and we know that he will represent Bulldog Nation well!
This Week at HMS 2-5-24
Congratulations to Dontae March, Addie Henderson, and Alissa Carnett on being named the Student of the Week for the week of Feb. 5! The Student of the Week award is presented weekly to one student in each grade. The teachers nominate students who they feel deserve special recognition for their accomplishments and positive attitude during the previous week.
Please join HMS next week for a penny drive for Mr. Vinyard. All monetary donations will be accepted.

HMS volleyball pictures will be taken on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. Players should have their uniforms at school on picture day. Check out the flyer for more information.
Boys basketball will practice today 3:30-5:30 pm at HMS. Cheerleaders who are on the volleyball team should report to volleyball practice at 3:30 pm at West Side.
The HMS boys basketball game scheduled for tonight with Fairfield has been canceled. We are working on rescheduling the game and will provide more information if a new date is set.
Volleyball tryouts will still be held tonight at HMS as planned. 8th grade tryouts will be from 5:00-6:00 pm. 7th grade tryouts will be from 6:00-7:00 pm. 6th grade tryouts will be from 7:00-8:00 pm.
Our students and staff are encouraged to wear red tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 19) in honor of Deandre Thomas, who tragically passed away over the weekend. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
This Week at HMS - January 15 - 21, 2024
HMS cheerleading and boys basketball practice for today is canceled. Also, the boys basketball game scheduled for tomorrow with Vienna has been canceled.
HMS volleyball tryouts have been scheduled for Thursday, January 18 and Friday, January 19. Every student trying out must have a current physical on file as well as an insurance waiver packet signed by a parent/guardian. All paperwork must be turned in to the office no later than Wednesday, January 17 at 3:00 pm. Band members and cheerleaders will not attend the first day of tryouts as they have prior commitments.
Tryouts will be held at West Side gym on January 18 at the following times:
8th grade tryouts will be from 4:00 - 5:00 pm.
7th grade tryouts will be from 5:00 - 6:00 pm.
6th grade tryouts will be from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.
Tryouts will be held at HMS gym on January 19 at the following times:
8th grade tryouts will be from 5:00 - 6:00 pm.
7th grade tryouts will be from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.
