The HMS Spring Showcase is Thursday, April 27 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. The HMS band will play from 4:00 - 4:30 and student work will be on display. There will also be an art show and science fair. Additionally, the book fair will be open. If you don't have time for dinner, plan to eat at the 8th Grade fundraiser - 2 pieces of pizza, dessert and a drink for $5. Due to the Spring Showcase, we will not have afternoon tutoring on Thursday.
HMS Parents - the Retro Dance will be over at 7:00 pm. Please make sure your child has a ride home at that time. Also, the TRACK MEET scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled and is rescheduled for Monday, April 24.
Congratulations to our HMS Special Olympics athletes! They did an awesome job today at the Special Olympics. We will post more pictures and their awards soon. All Special Olympics athletes need to bring their medals and ribbons to school tomorrow for a group picture. Thank you to Mrs. Storms and Mrs. Booth and all of our 8th grade helpers!
HMS Parents, a note is being sent home with your student today regarding a survey we will be taking. I have attached a copy of the note to this message that will give you more information. If you DO NOT want your student to participate, please sign the note and return it to school tomorrow.

Track practice for today has been cancelled due to the weather.
HMS students will begin IAR/ISA testing tomorrow, Monday, March 20. Please ensure they charge their chromebooks each night and are ready for testing in the morning. They will also need to bring a pencil. Remind them to get plenty of sleep this week and breakfast either at home or at school. Students will be provided with small snacks for each testing session and we will also have a concession available for students to purchase additional snacks.
We will not have tutoring at HMS on Thursday, March 16 from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. There will be tutoring on Friday morning, March 17 from 7:00 - 8:00 am.
HMS Parents, while you can take the 5 Essentials Parent Survey until March 31, today is the last day to take the survey and get an iReady exemption for one week from math and reading for your child. Additionally, you will get your name in a drawing for a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. Thank you to all the parents who have taken the survey so far! We currently have a 42% response rate and would really like to take to at least 50% of our parents! Take the survey to help us know what we need to work on to improve our school! Your child recently participated in the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey as did his or her teachers. We are now asking that you participate in the parent survey part of the Illinois 5 Essentials. We guarantee that survey responses will never be connected to the identity of you or your child. School reports will only present aggregated information of how many parents and students responded as a whole. This information will help HMS guide improvement.

Just a reminder that Harrisburg High School will hold a "to be" freshman registration meeting on Wednesday, February 15 at 5:30 pm. Building tours will begin at 4:45. HMS students will take the 5 Essentials Survey on Thursday, February 9. A letter was sent home with students on January 24 giving parents/guardians an opportunity to opt their student out of taking the survey. It also provides you with a link to preview the survey questions. Additionally, there is a copy of the survey in the office for you to review upon request. If you DO NOT WANT your child to take this survey, please fill out the form at the bottom of the letter and return it to the HMS office no later than Thursday morning. There is no need to return it if your child will be participating in the survey.
