Guidance Announcements
-Juniors can sign up in the Guidance Office to take the (PSAT) Practice
SAT test in the Media Center on Wednesday, October 30th. Cost is
$17.00. Pay Mr. McKinstry when you sign up.
-SIC College Fair is Tuesday, October 22nd. Juniors and Seniors only. The
bus will leave at 9 a.m. Return from SIC at 10:30 a.m. Be back in time
for lunch at 10:44 a.m.
-A SIC representative will be here on October 24th during
Parent/Teacher conferences from 3:30 to 6:30 to help parents and
students complete the FAFSA form. She will be in the Media Center
computer lab. Parents/students need to bring their 2018 tax returns.

-Dominican University representative will be here on Tuesday, October
22nd at 11:30 a.m. Sign up sheet is in the Guidance Office.
-University of Evansville representative will be here on Tuesday, October
22nd at 12:30 p.m. Sign up sheet is in the Guidance Office.
-SIU Edwardsville representative will be here on Wednesday, October
23rd at 11:30 a.m. Sign up sheet is in the Guidance Office.
-Murray State University representative will be here Thursday, October
24th at 8:30 a.m. Sign up sheet is in the Guidance Office.
-SIU Carbondale School of Health Sciences will be here on Tuesday,
October 29th at 9:30 a.m. Sign up sheet is in the Guidance Office.
-SIU Carbondale representative will be here on Tuesday, October 29th at
12:30 p.m. Sign up sheet is in the Guidance Office.
Scholarships
-Horatio Alger Scholarship. Applications are available in Mr. McKinstry’s
office. There is several criteria required for this scholarship. All
paperwork has to be received by October 25, 2019.
-CBAI Foundation for Community Banking 2020 Scholarship. The CBAI
Foundation for Community Banking provides monetary awards for top
high-school seniors statewide. A student can win up to $4,000 for
college. Applications are available at Mr. McKinstry’s office. The
deadline to apply is Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
-Golden Apple Scholars – Students interested in teaching. The Golden
Apple Scholarship is now available online. Details about the scholarship
are available online.
-IEC Memorial Scholarship – SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative is
announcing that the Illinois electric cooperatives will award twelve
scholarships in 2020. Students have to be a son or daughter of an
Illinois electric cooperative director or employee. Applications are
available online. The online application and official rules for the IEC
Memorial Scholarships can be found on the Association for Illinois
Electric Cooperative’s website under Youth Programs.
-LaVern and Nola McEntire Lineworker’s Scholarship – This $2,000
scholarship will help pay for costs to attend the lineworker’s school
conducted by the AIEC in conjunction with Lincoln Land Community
College, Springfield, IL. Information is available in Mr. McKinstry’s
office.
-Illinois State Historical Society Verna Ross Orndorff Scholarship
The Illinois State Historical Society is offering this prestigious award of
$1,000 for the best 1,500 word essay written by an Illinois high school
student on the subject of Abraham Lincoln or the Civil War era in
Illinois. Essays must be submitted by December 31, 2019. Applications
are available in Mr. McKinstry’s office.
-Ramsey Education – Ramsey Education is having a scholarship
giveaway. Go to Ramsey Education and follow the directions to compete
for the scholarships.
-Hagan Scholarship – A nationwide need-based merit scholarship. Each
Hagan Scholarship provides up to $6,000 each semester for up to 8
consecutive semesters, the opportunity to learn how to invest and then
manage a $15,000 Schwab Investment Account, and the opportunity to
Study Abroad worth up to $8,000. Over 400 new scholarships will be
awarded in April 2020. There is no application fee. The application
deadline is November 15, 2019. Applications are available in Mr.
McKinstry’s office.
-Heisman High School Scholarship – The Heisman High School
Scholarship program recognizes male and female community-minded
scholar-athletes at the state and national level. 100 scholarships
awarded. Deadline to apply is October 29th. Applications are available
in Mr. McKinstry’s office.
